R.I.P. Rollins ...
High winds overnight toppled my absolute favorite thing standing. ![]()
Known as "Rollins" after the great Henry Rollins, he stood for over two years. He was stacked on Jan. 20, 2006 and fell on Jan. 30, 2008. Truly one of the best things I have ever done. Can he be rebuilt? Sorta, but he will never be the same. Rest in peace, my friend. The end of an era.
A new and cool projick came my way ...
The flat-earth bushes that the developer planted to hide the heat pump needed trimming and Rob cut this rhododendron down that ended up at my house, and on Saturday the two entities met while I listened to Built To Spill: ![]()
That's Rob in the background.
Here's a view from the opposite direction:

Not bad for the price -- or even twice that. Rob said I should drill holes in the frame and make it a more permanent display. I don't know ... I could see using a stone (or perhaps even metal tools, since we aren't dealing with rocks here) to flatten out the roundness of the rhododendron, but to drill holes would change it from art to craft. Or am I just being a snob?
Because of Built To Spill I call the thing "Conventional Wisdom," in part because it's a kickass rock song that fit the moment and in part because the lyrics are cool:
"Some things never change
nothing's gonna change that.
Some things you can't explain
Like why we're all embracing conventional wisdom
in a world that's just so unconventional ..."
